Some Personal Insights

My personal experience : You will never know enough about yourself! And yet this is probably the gratest treasure you will encounter in your whole life.

I could never have faced the hardships related with moving a whole family in a different country at the “young” age of 44, If I hadn’t dug deep enough into my values to find that the life I had in Italy was not even close to what I wanted for my wife and my kids.

Yes, i could have maybe sacrified my own “dreams of becoming”, forget having a life working my a** off as a Sales Manager and business owner to support my family (weekends included), hoping that through years of consistent endeavour (=fatigue) I would end up in the position of “assuring them a future”, and not leaving them in the rollercoaster of the Italian work environment.

Or, as we did, refuse my day to day life of that time, knowing and expecting that something different was indeed possible, and was waiting for us somewhere else….

Let´s go on Point

But I digress like always! 😄

In this article, we’ll discuss some self-discovery tips that, once implemented, will help you significantly to understand yourself more deeply as well as direct you on your journey towards your own vision of self-realization.

Start With Self-Reflection : Get to Know Your True Self

I invite you to start your self-discovery journey through self reflection. It entails setting aside some time and spending it reflecting on your identity, values, experiences and beliefs, and what brings you joy.

It’s a great idea to record your thoughts and findings in a journal or notebook (please do it, do not rely on memory alone) because doing so regularly enables you to spot patterns in your behavior…

But make your best effort and always try to be honest with yourself. With the aid of systematic self-reflection you can recognize and examine your behavior, what really drives you, and identify repeating patterns in your life.

Identify Your Passions : What Makes You Tick?

What do you love doing? What gets you excited and energized?

Your passions are the things that make you feel alive and fulfilled. Starting from the self-reflerction sessions explained above, find then ways to incorporate your passions into your life by identifying them.

Whether it’s painting, cooking, playing music, or hiking, make time for the things that you love.

Put yourself to the test

Dealing with challenges is one of the best ways to push yourself towards your full potential.

Make it a habit to attempt something new and step outside of your comfort zone. This is also a muscle, and the more you train it, tme more you will be naturally enclined to solve any kind of problem adding your own personal “twist”.

Why not learn a new skill, visit a brand new destination, or enroll in a course?

Setting goals is essential for self-discovery. Goals give you direction and purpose, and they help you measure your progress. But the whole process doesn’t have to be rocket science…

Start easily by Identifying your short-term and long-term goals and then write them down

Accepting and embracing your flaws is a vital step towards self-compassion and self-worth.

You are knocking at the door of your own growth…

So choose to be in the company of positive and supportive individuals who inspire and uplift you.

Your mutual encouragement will fuel your progress and enable you to become the best version of yourselves.

Mindfulness is a powerful practice that cultivates awareness of the present moment without judgment.

(I warmly invite you to read the post I wrote about the connection between Mindfulness and mind based stress reduction, follow the link and enjoy!).

Practicing mindfulness allows you to become more of a spectator of your thoughts and emotions, rather than being flooded by them, an thus effectively managing stress and anxiety.

Your values serve as guiding principles that shape your decisions and actions. They also help to maximize the time at your disposal, discarding what is not in line with them.

So get clear with your own values and protect them.

(by the way, this is one of the core principle underneath this whole website😊)

Set time aside time to reflect on what is most important to you, and then do your best to align your life with it.

And like in sound-physics, when your life gets in-phase with your core values, the energy of the process is doubled : You gain an even deeper sense of truth and meaning.

It is always a smart move to ask for feedback from others you trust and respect, as they can provide valuable insights into your strengths and weaknesses.

So reach out to trusted friends, family members, or mentors and ask for constructive feedback.

You might also consider consulting professionals for a more objective perspective…

This is a good option to consider, as a paid professional uses special techniques to dig even deeper and provide you with tons of useful information.

Even though it is a pronounced sign of our times, comparing yourself to others is a detrimental habit that hinders self-discovery.

The reality is instead that everyone’s journey is unique : there is no one-size-fits-all approach to any experience.

Therefore, rather then comparing your progress to others, allow yourself instead to celebrate your accomplishments and successes.

Each step you take on your journey is significant and worthy of acknowledgment.
